Detection of cerebral microbleeds with dual echo T2*-weighted MR imaging at 7.0 Tesla

چکیده
Introduction Increasing interest in microbleeds had led to an increasing number of studies addressing its prevalence and clinical relevance. Prevalence estimates differ substantially between studies, due to differences in image protocols and field strengths. This study assessed the visualization of cerebral microbleeds with dual echo T2*-weighted imaging at 7.0 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Cerebral microbleeds on MR imaging: comparison between 1.5 and 7T.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The detection of microbleeds differs strongly between studies, due to differences in scan protocol. This study aims to compare the visualization of microbleeds with 3D T2*-weighted imaging at 1.5T with 3D dual-echo T2*-weighted imaging at 7T. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-four patients (29 male; mean age, 58 ± 12 years) with atherosclerotic disease from the Second Manife...
متن کاملEfficient detection of cerebral microbleeds on 7.0 T MR images using the radial symmetry transform
Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are commonly detected on MRI and have recently received an increased interest, because they are associated with vascular disease and dementia. Identification and rating of CMBs on MRI images may be facilitated by semi-automatic detection, particularly on high-resolution images acquired at high field strength. For these images, visual rating is time-consuming and has ...
متن کاملImproved MR imaging detection of cerebral microbleeds more accurately identifies persons with vasculopathy.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The clinical relevance of improved detection of cerebral microbleeds by using advanced-versus-conventional MR imaging techniques remains uncertain. As part of the population-based Rotterdam Scan Study, we compared whether participants whose microbleeds were only demonstrated on a high-resolution MR imaging sequence differed with respect to risk profile and risk of new mic...
متن کاملHippocampal Microbleed on a Post-Mortem T2∗-Weighted Gradient-Echo 7.0-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging?
The present post-mortem study of a brain from an Alzheimer patient showed on a T(2)∗-weighted gradient-echo 7.0-T MRI of a coronal brain section a hyposignal in the hippocampus, suggesting a microbleed. On the corresponding histological examination, only iron deposits around the granular cellular layer and in blood vessel walls of the hippocampus were observed without evidence of a bleeding. Th...
متن کاملDiffuse axonal injury associated with chronic traumatic brain injury: evidence from T2*-weighted gradient-echo imaging at 3 T.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diffuse axonal injury is frequently accompanied by tissue tear hemorrhages. We examined whether high field strength T2*-weighted gradient-echo imaging performed during the chronic stage of traumatic brain injury may have advantages in the evaluation of diffuse axonal injury as compared with T1- and T2-weighted MR imaging. METHODS Prospective MR imaging of 66 patients (a...
